Wine and Food

Not only is Que Syrah closer to home than other wine bars I frequent, it’s also one of the few open on Sunday afternoons. I had worked out at the gym late afternoon, and I arrived on West Portal just before dark. The sign outside Que Syrah advertised this week’s flight: Big Napa Reds.

So, I enjoyed the flight with an order of olives.

Here were the wines in the flight:

• Emmolo 2005 Merlot — Napa Valley
• Shypoke 2004 Charbono — Napa Valley
• Terra Valentine 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon — Spring Mountain District, Napa Valley

I enjoyed them all, but after the flight, I finished off my olives with another glass of the Merlot. I was a bit surprised that a Merlot was my favorite, but this time it was.
