The Hidden Vine: Dave’s Favorite Reds
I stopped by The Hidden Vine after work (without my camera) to check out this month’s wines. The featured region is Alsace, and the wine selections from Alsace all sound good. But, the menu also includes two red wine flights: a flight of California red wines from Dave’s favorite producers and Elegant European Reds (Dave’s Picks). I had to try Dave’s picks, knowing I’ll have time to return to taste the others during October.
Here were Dave’s picks:
- 2004 Domain Michel Gross Rouge (Pinot Noir) — Bourgogne, France
- 2002 Solanes (Garnacha Blend) — Priorat, Spain
- 2001 Bera “Alladio” (Nebbiolo) — Langhe, Italy
which I enjoyed with two cheeses
- Panache d’Aramits — Aquitaine, France
dense, chewy texture and a soft, nutty flavor (sheep) - Sottocenere — Veneto, Italy
semi-firm and infused with black truffles, ash rind scented with truffle oil (cow)
And, as I said, I’ll be back during October.
