The Hidden Vine: Wines from Chile

Featured Region of the Month: Chile

It was already crowded when I arrived at The Hidden Vine, about 5:30pm — a dozen people, in three groups, were engaged in quiet conversations. So, I did not take pictures. Instead, I enjoyed the white and red Chilean wine samplers, with two cheeses.

Here are the wines, with descriptions from the menu:

The white wines

  • 2005 Calina “Reserva” Chardonnay, Casablanca Valley
    Medium-bodied
  • 2005 Luis Felipe Edwards Sauvignon Blanc, Colchagua Valley
    Light-bodied
  • 2006 Aresti Gewürtztraminer, Curico Valley
    Lightly-sweet

The red wines

  • 2006 Cono Sur Pinot Noir, Colchagua Valley
    Earthy/Plush
  • 2005 Alcance Carménère, Maule Valley
    Earthy/Fruity
  • 2006 Viu Manent Malbec, Colchagua Valley
    Jammy/Big & Bold

And, the cheeses

  • Capriole “Old Kentucky Tomme” — Greenville, Indiana
  • Carr Valley “Benedictine” — La Valle, Wisconsin

When I left, about an hour later, the crowd had more than doubled. It looked like it would be a busy night at the Hidden Vine!
