CAV: New Zealand
This week’s flight at CAV Wine Bar was four wines from New Zealand.
Here are the wines, along with some of Pamela’s comments:
- Brut, 2001, Huia, Marlborough, New Zealand
“one of the rare sparkling wines that almost meets Champagne on southern hemisphere turf” - Riesling, 2006, Aurum, Central Otago, New Zealand
“offers an opulent burst of grapefruit, tangerine, lime and jolly rancher (yes the candy) with a long clean finish” - Sauvignon Blanc, 2006, Eradus, Marlborough, New Zealand
“oozing with luscious grapefruit, peach and papaya flavors” - Pinot Noir, 2005, Amisfield, Central Otago, New Zealand
“medium bodied with brambly cherry fruit, vanilla and a little spice”
I enjoyed these with two cheeses:
- Haystack Mt. “Red Cloud” — Denver, Colorado
- Sweet Grass Dairy “Green Hill” — Thomasville, Georgia
All the wines were good, but I followed the flight with another half glass of the Pinot.
