This morning, I attended a 2-hour, advanced class in paper airplanes, taught by John M. Collins, "The Paper Airplane Guy", author of "Fantastic Flight" and "Gliding Flight", at BookShop West Portal.
I had attended a much shorter paper airplane class (where I was the only adult unaccompanied by a child) in July, and it left me eager to try some of the more complicated designs.
John supplied the paper, he showed us how to read the diagrams in his books, and he gave some tips on folding the airplanes. During a break, he demonstrated some of his more exotic paper airplanes, such as the Tumble Wing and the Follow Foil.
We folded and flew three paper airplanes: Phoenix Lock and Boomerang I (from "Gliding Flight") and the Tube (from "Fantastic Flight"). John also demonstrated the Boomerang II, but we did not have time to fold that one ourselves.
I left the class wanting to try more of the airplanes in the books — particularly the Boomerang II. And, if BookShop West Portal brings John back for another class, I'll be there. But, first I need to go back and see if I can fold the airplanes we covered in class, using just the diagrams and my memory.
